Soviet Movie Night [Masks Required!]
About This Event
RSVP https://www.eventbrite.com/e/soviet-movie-night-masks-required-tickets-1738657745119 Join us for a curated double feature of Soviet cinema — starting with an animated short and followed by a full-length classic.Ever wonder what Soviets were really watching? Not propaganda reels, but the things we gathered around the TV for, sang along to, quoted with friends. Join us for a curated double feature of Soviet cinema — chosen by a real Soviet woman — starting with an animated short and followed by a full-length classic. These are the films that filled our living rooms and playground chatter: whimsical adventures, sharp comedies, tender romances, and surreal flights of fancy. We’ll pull from favorites like Здравствуйте, я ваша тётя! (Hello, I’m Your Aunt!), Чиполлино (Cipollino), Москва слезам не верит (Moscow Does Not Believe in Tears), Бременские музыканты (The Bremen Town Musicians), Винни-Пух (Winnie-the-Pooh), and Барон Мюнхгаузен (The Very Same Munchhausen). All films will be shown in Russian with English subtitles. Masks required for everyone’s safety — bring your curiosity, a good respirator (KN95/N95 or better which we can provide), and maybe a friend who’s never seen anything quite like this. In the support of our masks required community, if you are sick, please stay home. Your hosts: Anna Zagerson came to the U.S. from Gomel, Belarus when she was two and a half years old. Her childhood was deeply steeped in Soviet movies, cartoons, and the Russian language. The classics never left her personal zeitgeist, and she is looking forward to introducing you and cohost Gene (also from the USSR) to her favorites. This is a masks REQUIRED event. As with all NYC Resistor events, this class is 18+ and governed by our Code of Conduct. The Code of Conduct, as well as accessibility information, can be found at www.nycresistor.com/participate/.
