Repair your broken items at Repair Cafe!

RSVP https://www.eventbrite.com/e/repair-your-broken-items-at-repair-cafe-tickets-1987782761750

Repair can be intimidating if you haven’t done it before, and the hardest part often is getting started. It’s easier with support!Repair can be intimidating if you haven’t done it before, and the hardest part often is getting started. It’s easier with other people to get you over that hump, and that’s where Repair Cafe NYC comes in!
We’re a group of DIYers who love fixing things! (And we’re also on Discord!)
Repair Cafe NYC organizes events where we collectively diagnose and fix broken objects, share skills, and build intergenerational, community-based knowledge. We’re interested in helping each other gain confidence in the act of repair to prevent our belongings from going to the landfill, and thinking critically about where our things come from.
People bring a wide variety of items to events, including lamps, chairs, mugs/plates, clothes and more. Think small, portable items (no large appliances, bicycles or couches).
When: Saturday May 2nd, 2pm-5pmWhere: NYC Resistor, 87 3rd Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11217
At check out you will be asked these questions:
What’s broken in your life that you want to repair? Describe it and how it is broken.Does your repair require specific tools or parts? Do you have them? Are you interested in helping others with their repairs? If so, what skills would you like to share? Please be sure to fill out the RSVP form completely. This helps us to prepare for the event. If you do not fill out the form, we will assume the RSVP was by mistake and cancel the ticket.
Questions? Email us at repaircafenyc@gmail.com
This is a masks optional event.
As with all NYC Resistor events, this class is 18+ and governed by our Code of Conduct. The Code of Conduct, as well as accessibility information, can be found at www.nycresistor.com/participate/.

Printed circuit boards aren't just for electronics. Their layered structure make them a surprisingly expressive artistic medium.Printed circuit boards aren't just for electronics. Their layered structure, copper traces, soldermask colors, and silkscreen printing make them a surprisingly expressive artistic medium.
In this workshop, you'll use PCBs to design your own business card (or any other kind of card), ready to fabricate in real fiberglass and copper.
You'll edit and manipulate vector art in **Inkscape**, convert your artwork into a **KiCAD** footprint, and place it on a board ready to be fabricated. Along the way, you'll learn how PCB fabricators interpret computer graphics: how vector paths become physical primitives, how colors map to fabrication layers, and how artwork gets distributed across copper, soldermask, and silkscreen to create the final board. No electronics background required — this workshop is about graphic design and fabrication, not circuit theory or soldering. If you have a computer, you can make a graphic PCB! If you already know how to design a PCB, this can help you level up their visual appeal. Background in working with SVG is helpful but not required.
To bring:
LaptopThis workshop is lead by Alex Tait.
There are 4 spots reserved for students who cannot access the class at the full price, so please only make use of one of these half-off need-based tickets if that is your situation. Checkout Code: PCBACCESSTIX
This is a masks optional workshop.
As with all NYC Resistor events, this class is 18+ and governed by our Code of Conduct. The Code of Conduct, as well as accessibility information, can be found at www.nycresistor.com/participate/.

Harness the power of an Epilog 60 Watt Laser! In this class you'll learn everything you need.Harness the power of an Epilog 60 Watt Laser! In this class you'll learn everything you need to know to make the ideas in your head become a reality with a laser.
In this three hour class, you will learn:
How to set up a file for cutting on the laser cutter in Inkscape or Adobe Illustrator.Laser cutter safety including materials testing.Laser cutter operation including configuration, cuts and raster etching in common materials like wood, acrylic, cardboard and others. At the end of class, you will go home with:
One laser cut project, either the class default or a simple one of your own design (see below for details)Resistor Laser Certification, enabling you to use our laser on Craft Nights. Please bring the following to class:
A laptop with either Inkscape (free: download here: https://inkscape.org/release/inkscape-1.2.1/) or Adobe Illustrator installed.
A USB jump drive
The following items are optional if you'd like to try cutting a simple custom design. If your file ends up being too complicated, we may have you do the class default project first, just to learn the laser in the time allotted - but we'll definitely help you with your more complex cut at a free Craft Night in future!
An SVG vector file of a simple shape you'd like to cut for your first cut.A piece of 1/8 inch or thinner wood, acrylic or cardboard you'd like to cut. If you can't bring your own material, small pieces will be made available, or larger pieces for purchase on site. Please be on time for the start of class! If you're late you will miss your slot.
This class will be taught by NYC Resistor member Katie. As with all NYC Resistor events, this class is 18+ and governed by our Code of Conduct. The Code of Conduct, as well as accessibility information, can be found at www.nycresistor.com/participate/.
Please note that refunds must be requested 72 hours in advance. If you have any questions, please email classes@nycresistor.com.

Soldering is one of the most important skills you'll need for working with electronics. Come join us for an introductory through-hole solderSoldering is one of the most important skills you'll need for working with electronics. Come join us for an introductory through-hole soldering workshop. Soldering enables you to create sturdy connections between electrical components. In this hands-on workshop, you'll learn how to use a soldering iron safely and effectively, and get plenty of practice with both soldering and de-soldering techniques. We'll be soldering up some Game of Life kits - LED tiles that generate nifty animations. No previous experience is required, making this introductory workshop a great choice for anyone who's curious about getting started with hardware tinkering! All materials will be provided.
OK, awesome, I want to join!
Please be ready to start at 1pm! We find that you will need this time to get through the whole class. Our classes tend to sell out about a week in advance so if you're interested, you may want to sign up early.
This class will be taught by Resistor member Woody.
This program is supported, in part, by public funds from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs in partnership with the City Council.

This class will be taught by Resistor member Jack Poon.
As with all NYC Resistor events, this class is 18+ and governed by our Code of Conduct.
This class will be taught by NYC Resistor member Woody.
