This is one of our species' greatest victories over suffering; it's a good time to celebrate and to remember.<br>.

Had he lived long enough to finish another volume, he had <a href="https://www.google.com/url?q=http://dailynous.com/2017/01/02/derek-parfit-1942-2017/%23comment-96731&sa=D&source=calendar&ust=1671557547909792&usg=AOvVaw2Y8vbk28wweupN5IRHEzYy" target="_blank">plans</a> to discuss existential risk and dive deeper into questions of how we ought to act.<br><br>How to celebrate Parfit's life and work? You could discuss population ethics, philosophize about something else, or consider, as a group, ways to make your lives slightly more rational. (Or just eat cake and sing Happy Birthday and engage in idle, friendly conversation; Parfit surely wouldn't object.)
